Music Never Helps

Performed on the 25th of February 2026, by Alex Izaak Milling and Theo Gowans

Released February 26, 2026
Recorded, Mixed and Mastered by Theo Gowans

Music Never Helps is a natural meeting of opposites. The trained, the digital, the level, the detailed meets the untrained, the physical, the erratic and broad strokes. Dual processed vocal setups plus bells, whistles, tins and tat gesturing towards discovering something within the belly of music. But the belly of music never helps...

This is a short record dedicated to the place I've been living the last three years, and the people I've shared said space with. Over this time I feel like I've done a lot of growing as an artist & person, all the while being facilitated by Cardigan Road. It had character and quirks, low ceilings that many fell victim to, and walls that have heard many a conversation that has shifted my perception on improvisation (a long with who I am as an individual)l. I have had some of the best and worst moments in this space, and it seems fitting that the last thing I did there before moving out was record this audio. It's not perfect or polished, but neither was my time in Cardigan Road.

Tilikum the Great is a loop based improvisational noise rock duo based in Leeds. The music they create darts between extremes flowing from chaotic noisy improvisations to tightly structured noise rock songs. On the 16th of June 2022 they attempted to capture the same energy in a recorded room, and then decorate around it whilst still keeping true to their sound. This is the result.
